Installed to monitor our Sonicwall Firewalls via the console port as they the most unreliable pieces of kit on the planet. Unlike this serial adaptor that has worked perfectly!

When using a lot of USB to COM devices (one port stuff) the COM port often changes when unplugging and plugging back in. This is annoying when maintaining systems on other islands, where we have no physical access. This device keeps the port numbers, so even if an end user unplugs it (to charge a phone of all things) and puts it back in, the serial devices will work again on the same programmed COM ports. Very nice products - will order more.

Had been using Tripp Lite Keyspan serial to USB adapters in my astronomical observatory. They are good, but not good enough for a few key pieces of imaging equipment. Not the fault of Keyspan. I had one fail, and decided I needed a more dedicated way of adapting serial devices. This worked perfectly! I run it remotely through an Icron USB extender (LAN) several hundred feet to the house. My equipment specifically stated I should use a dedicated "card" but running a laptop made that impossible. So I got this and it solved all my connectivity issues. And I run it with no external power source.

Tried many cheap USB to RS-232 converters, what a waste of money and time trying to get them to work properly; nothing but communication errors and frustration. This one works flawlessly in Windows 7, 8.1 and 10; drivers installed automatically (no disk needed) and COM ports are persistent (never change) between multiple devices; it looks like the driver always remembers a serial number (or somehow is able to identify a specific unit) of the device and assigns it the same COM port every time this specific device is plugged in. Used 3 of those converters on the same computer without any problems whatsoever. Has an external 5V input port (I think it is a standard 2.5mm plug) but I did not need to use it; it works flawlessly getting it's power only from the USB port. The case is solid steel and comes with a DIN rail adapter as well as it can be surface mounted with screws. Love the send and receive indicator lights (for each port) since I can visually identify what is happening with either serial port. Also has a power LED. I cannot say anything about it's high speed serial performance since my application calls for only 38.4kbs and it has been running without a single error for months now. At this speed, basically saturating both ports with data traffic, it is just slightly above the ambient temperature (cannot really call it warm). As for reliability goes, I have been using approx. 15 of those converters for several months (purchased from different sources including Amazon), not a single DOA or failure. A true industrial quality USB to serial port converter that is very reasonably priced.
