This was not an exact match, as I had to bolt it on sort of sideways, but it worked for an older Scotts 1742 mower. Easy to install.

This part came on time.. big plus! We were having issues with our riding mower not starting. It was a combination of issues, but we replaced things that were inexpensive. Now the mower runs beautifully!

Great replacement part. Took a lot longer to install than expected but that was because or the way the factory mounted it on my tractor. A small change of moving the flange and bolts to go top down will make a 1 hour struggle in to a 5 min job in the future.

Product was a good buy. Local price was 2.5 times higher. It was a bit of an issue to install due to location but that has nothing to do with the product.. Design engineer should have to work on everything before it is sold, mine was located behind the right tire. Doable but could have been placed in a lot of easier place. (John Deere)

I have a John Deere L110 I bought in 2003 and the starter solenoid stop working. After 17 years I never thought I would get a replacement that would fit like the old one. This was a perfect fit and only took me 15 minutes to replace it and works perfect and the price was good.

Good except that the screw poles for the leads were too big, and a lot of adjustment was needed to make the connections. Not really compatible with the item it was supposed to replace, according to the website

Update May 2018: Well, I got less than 2 years out of this last solenoid but am just now replacing it. I still give five stars as I suspect there is an issue elsewhere in the machine. This time I am replacing all battery and starter cables with new high quality custom made marine-grade cables. I'm also running a dedicated ground from the battery directly to the started mounting bolt. This all may be overkill for an 18-year old riding mower, but I'm otherwise very happy with it. It's now starting like it was new! If this solenoid has a premature failure I'll be pretty unhappy and will update.Update April 2016: I'm now on my 2nd replacement :-( The original solenoid lasted from 2001 to late 2014. The first replacement lasted about a year. I cannot be sure if it the first replacement was poor quality, or if it was premature failure due to a bad battery/low voltage. Research seems to indicate low voltage will cause premature failure. I put the 2nd unit on in April 2016 and hope it will last many years.Original review 2014: Perfect fit for my Scotts by John Deere S1642 mower. HOWEVER, keep the nuts from your old solenoid as this one only comes with the ones pictured, which are not intended to be removed. You will need 2 nuts to lock the cables against the ones shown. This is not a product flaw, it's just the way these are supplied.Additional info: Polarity of the two small wires is not significant. Be sure to eliminate any poor electrical connections that can cause low voltage in the starting and battery system. e.g. I have one unit that is badly rusted where the ground strap connects to the frame.
