The blade is made from stainless steel with chemically etched graduations accurate to within . 001 in. This innovative Savage tool was the first of its kind to incorporate a block vial to improve accuracy and durability. Uses include gauging depth, scribing lines for ripping material, mitering, and drawing notches. The combination square is a multi-functional classic square that's crucial for every Carpenter.

When you remove the ruler, the pin (and therefore also the spring) fall out. This is poor design. I frequently remove the ruler on the job site. If the pin and spring come out, they will be lost.

After rounding off the edges, I used it on a project yesterday and was impressed by the solid feel and that the ruler stayed where it was set. I like that the metric and inch scales are on the same side of the rule, I just wish it was like that on the other side. I also like the scribe being screwed in, not a pressure fit.
What I expected. Very pleased!

As noted by others, the edges on the body are sharp but easily remedied with some 300 grit sandpaper. Tool seems to be well made (surprisingly, made in China) and sturdy. Only other minor complaint, wish the scribe was attached some other way then screw in (or the threads could be shorter), bit of a pain to screw in and out often.

These are the best squares of their type I have found. They are easy to read, hold true and are very durable.

This square is exactly what I wanted, not too big and ideal for most jobs. Can't beat Prime.

Echt goed gereedschap, vele malen beter dan het spul uit china. Echt zuiver haaks en 45 graden. Kortom een aanrader, bovendien verstuurde de winkel de spullen snel. Erg blij mee!

This square is slightly thinner and slightly longer than the regular square. Although it looks chunky, I find it to be just as ergonomic as any square, and the weight is essentially identical. It must be hollowed out.The reference face on the square isn't perfectly ground, but that's par for the course on all of these inexpensive squares. The slide is solid and straight and has precision ground edges. The bolt and nut are brass. The nut is very large and has good knurling. It's a pretty big chunk of brass, which is nice. Everything works exactly like it should. Accuracy is good out of the box. The bubble level is large, bright, and easy to read. It appears to be cast into a solid block of resin.Con: The one and only drawback to this square is the nut/bolt/spring shoots out if you remove the slide. This is easy to remedy. Takes about 10 minutes. Then this is the perfect square. If you are curious how, just ask. Other than this quirk, there is nothing to complain about.

Bought this because it was a brand I knew and it was really cheap but when I got it I was really surprised by the quality, it has a brass set screw that I'm sure will last longer than the aluminum ones that empire uses and the machining on it is really nice the level is inset in the handle and inside a clear plastic so you don't have to worry about the lines wearing off like they have on my empire and irwin squares there isnt a coating on the blade so you don't have to worry about it getting cloudy like the Johnson blades. Very pleased with the quality and weight and how rigid the set screw is. It works with my other blades so I plan on ordering more just for the heads.

This is a wonderful combination square. It was square, according to an engineer's square I checked it with. It is lightweight, and the stop glides very smoothly in the channel on the ruler. The knob in the stop handle, or whatever it is called - you know - the orange thing, works well, is easy to turn, and is smooth. No break-in burrs or rough spots in the ruler channel or the screw device. The marking pin stuck in the bottom seems well attached. I don't think it will easily become dis-attached from the tool.Of course, the main thing about a combination square is the numbers and the measuring marks. First of all, they are where they should be. The one inch mark in actually right on one inch. No one shaved a 64th off the end during manufacture. Second, the numbers and marks are easy to read. For a fellow as old as I am, that is a big deal. The numbers are the same size as most squares, but they are distinct. If I have a complaint it is that one side of the ruler is metric. I suppose this is OK for those who have to switch back and forth between the old inch system and the newer metric system. I don't like doing that and usually avoid the metric system. My saw isn't marked in metric and I can't imagine having to transfer the numbers from one system to the other. So, one-half of the ruler is not useful to me.Otherwise, a great combination square.AD2
