I only needed the powerhead, which worked perfectly as a replacement for a failed unit in a hydronic heating system. It is good to have a back up valve which I can use in the future if one of my valves fails.

Orderd 2 One was complete the other was missing the power head unit. Now I have to go thru the long return process. But the other valve was as stated. Shipping took a long time.

Only the upper part was necessary to replace, which required no tools, except a screwdriver for the three wires. The upper assembly is removed by simply twisting the head a quarter-turn. I saved the sweat fitting for future use. This saved me $125 by doing it myself in 5 minutes, compared to paying a company for a service call to do it. The original TACO brand-valve lasted 10 years. Take a photo of the color-coded wires before unscrewing them, and turn off the service switch which supplies AC power to the heater before replacing the device.

I replaced two stuck Taco zone control valves after being in service since I installed my boiler twenty five years ago.

I had a Taco zone valve that started leaking. Usually, the head unit fails (no leaking) and you can purchase that for less and just twist it on the existing valve housing. In the case of a leak you may need to replace the entire valve which might mean cutting the old one out and soldering in a new one using 3/4" copper pipe and repair sleeves. But if you can disassemble the old valve assembly (the 4 screws can be hard to remove), you use the parts from the new one to replace the old, corroded valve parts, eliminating the need to remove the old valve housing. Which is what I did, saving $800 over the repair cost the furnace service company quoted me.

It fit! I was able to sweat it into place all by myself, the first time, without leaks! I don't suggest eating a taco valve, or cooking it excessively with a torch, but it is pretty easy to install if you have some experience sweat soldering pipe (which i now have about twice the experience as before). And does the job as my zone valve for my hot water baseboard heating system. Not much to say, other than that, or other than that the old one makes a really good paperweight or two might make a good canoe anchor. Shipped fast; price was decent; doesn't bark or bite. Good product; happy customer.

This is a standard valve you can get at both Home Depot and Lowes. The only difference is the price and how fast you need it. We had time so I saved the money. Only needed the head but it was still cheaper than the big box stores. The head is the major cause of the valve failing. Not that much difference in the price of the whole valve and just the head. Wanted to make sure I had all the parts I needed. It was only 30 or 40 years old. Going to buy just the head and I will be prepared for the next failure in another decade.
