useless on green wood... had to file the point to work on dry wood.... misplaced my old hook and haven't been able to find them on line. thought this would be a good substitute but not for me.

Easy to use & light weight. It came not sharp enough to dig into the log. It had to be sharpened. The quality is good.

Well balanced. Wanted a sharper point for my needs, but that was an easy fix. Also going to paint it hunter orange so I don't loose it so easily in the fall leaves. Just another one of those gadgets that help in the wood cutting process.

This product has its relationship with the logging markets. It’s primarily used to stack pulpwood 4 foot why it’s called a pop hook. Are use it to help load firewood on the wood splitter and allows me to be more efficient yeah it is exactly the same type are used back in the 80s plenty rugged!

arrived quickly and is an excellent buy. Prior to buying i read reviews saying how it isnt sharp enough to go into wood, well the one i ordered is definitely sharp enough, also if u r buying a pulp hook then i would assume u would be able to sharpen it, which was what i intended to do if it arrived dull.lucky for me this never happened. for the price u cant beat it, pulp hooks in the local hardware stores start at about 45$, so for the price its an excellent buy

As an experienced woodsman, I just assumed this tool would help pick up wood off the ground, similar to a pickaroon but couldn't get it to stick to a single piece. Its seems to be well made. If you want a tool to just move wood around, perhaps a log splitter, this is for you but don't expect it to pick anything up.

Your hook when it arrives is really not ready for the woods but a few simple things will turn it into the real McCoy.As you use this tool through the years you will have to repeat the sharpening as it gets dull so it is a lesson worth learning from the start. First off is the point which needs a file job after you scrape off about a 1/2 inch of tip paint. Even with the thick paint removed you still have a square blunt point. Any flat bastard file , belt or power sander can be used to carefully form a sharp but not thin point. There is actually a special file available for sharpening axes, garden tools etc and it is the Nicholson 6706N Axe File 8 inch available on Amazon. It has a formed metal handle that can be wrapped or dipped if you don't want to use gloves..The point should just follow the existing shape and sharp enough to bite the end of a log or a stump.Try to keep as much of the original paint on as you can. You may end up painting the metal blue if you find the green color hides in the leaves. Get into the habit of keeping it up out of the leaves and sawdust .. a lesson to be learned after you search for it a few times. Also it is safer than stepping or tripping over the point. If the handle pivots on the bolt it is useless so it may need to be tightened up from time to time. Never paint or varnish the handle but use some linseed oil. Varnish on any hand tool will lead to blisters and many old timers scraped it off wood tool handles and used the linseed oil trick. So there you go.. stay safe !!

What can you say? It works.I'm not a lumber jack, but I've used it to move a number of logs while I was cutting up my fire wood.It didn't come very sharp, but nothing a few swipes with a file couldn't fix.A bent, pointy peice of steel with a handle on one end is a pretty hard item to screw up.The price was very reasonable.
