For me this is making up the difference between a mag sweep and a smaller hand-held magnet for cleanup. Right now, I’m keeping it next to my belt sander for picking up metal shavings and it’s doing a great job.

I honestly got this not quite sure if I would use it and how well it would work. It works amazing. I use it to pick up swarf from my lathe, mill, and bandsaw. It makes it super easy, and kinda fun, to pick up metal shavings. Then to remove them. I just use a shop towel and pull the magnet to the back and everything falls off. Love it. Be careful though i've accidentally bludgeoned my mill while getting too close with the magnet.

I work with metal. I have metal shavings all over the place. I can get to the shavings on the floor with an other magnet tool, but I was looking for something that will pull the shavings from a pile of sawdust or similar garbage. I was also looking for something that would release the shavings easily. My floor magnet wants to hold the shavings and doesn't release them. This tool drops the shavings easily. If I were to design a tool to pick up metal shavings, nuts, nails, etc... this would be it.

The magnet is definitely powerful, and it does a great job picking up metallic items. The design is such that you can collect the items, like iron shavings in sand, and then pull the red ball handle and draw the magnet out of the front metal outer tube. This demagnetizes the front metal outer tube, and the shavings fall off. However, they do try to follow the magnet along the tube, so they move towards the handle. To help with this issue, they have fitted a tight plastic ring around the outer tube. That stops the movement of the metal item that was picked up. The plastic ring can be set anywhere along the outer tube. It is tight so it is a little tricky to move it, but it stays in place where you set it. That is the important part The overall construction is very good, it is a well-built tool. I expect that it will hold up nicely over time. I can see lots of possible uses for this handy magnet tool and I am glad I have it in my collection.

As someone who for a long time has been using grabbers to pick things up from the floor, I can totally understand my husband’s appreciation for this magnetic pickup tool. We are impressed by how it can take hold of metal in his shop and easily release it. He doesn’t even have to pull nails or whatever from the end. The ample length, the rubber gripper, and the ball on the pulling end make the tool easy to use. It is sturdy and well-made. My husband and I like handy things like this, partly because we are older. But even a young person can be pleased with this useful, and sometimes time-saving, tool. Anything to make life a little simpler.

This thing is a must for a metal worker. It efficiently picks up metal shavings and bits and then dumps them when you pull the handle. Really solid tool, nice construction, feels sturdy. The internal magnet is very strong. It is so strong that you have to be careful near steel drawers, cabinets, legs, etc.. If you stick it to the side of a steel cabinet corner and then pull away too fast, you could dent the outer metal sleeve as it is only about 1mm thick. If it dents too deeply it may inhibit the internal magnet movement. But otherwise get this for your avid metalworker.

Not incredibly strong, but good enough to get the bulk of what you drop. Pretty useful tool to have.At this price point, I would like to see some better attention to details:The release could be a little more binary (on/off). You tend to get a few items still holding on.The release knob could use a ball detent or friction fit or something. It slides open on its own too easily. And, while I know I'll make it dirty myself, I still would have appreciated a cleaner product out of the box. It was pretty grimey.

I tested the lifting power against a $14 magnetic pick-up tool from Harbor Freight and it has about the same power. The form factor of this is nice, but it should be half the $70 price.
