I have been using this for over two years. My favorite feature is the average reading. It will show you the average reading of temperature for the entire time you hold the trigger. This is great for more relative readings on things instead of spot specific readings.

As a budget conscious consumer that also looks for high quality tools, i own other Uni-T tools.Whenever i see the brand i know they are going to be priced reasonably while keeping similar performance to the better established "American" (and i put quotes because often it's just an American Brand name but manufactured in China) brands, such as -cough- Fluke -cough-.I own Uni-T's Multimeter, Clamp Meter, and a Contactless Voltage Detector and those have been my drivers when it came to electrical work, and have been reliable to this date.I am in a situation where i need to monitor temperature from an air vent that i cannot reach regularly and had borrowed a Fluke thermometer from a friend for that task, but i was going to need one for a longer term and Uni-T is a brand that i trust and again they've proven why by comparing results to the Fluke Instruments 561, measurements fluctuated +/- 0.2F which he purchased for $199 compared to this Uni-T at $35.89 (-14% Coupon so roughly $30.99) and you got a winner. The rear display is very bright and color coded, there is no on-off switch, just trigger sensitive. The included carrying/storage case is nothing to write home about but provides basic protection again scratches, some shock and dust, honestly it was a great addition at this price level. The one gripe that doesn't affect usability but that i see it as an increasing trend, and it is that the box and manual are completely in Chinese (check pictures). These brands get away with it because the products are good and a great value, but they are getting really careless with localization to the American Markets, that's something Fluke definitely does right because it's an American company. But the value pound for pound for performance/accuracy can't be beaten, 5 Stars.

I'm not sure how accurate this is for commercial use, but it seems adequate for households. I tested it with my fridge that has a thermometer inside, and my oven and grill and it's pretty accurate for both heat and cold.

First things first... this thermometer has an adjustable emissivity range. Many similarly priced thermometers are fixed/non-adjustable. This is extremely useful because infrared thermometers are not set it and forget it devices. Different materials have different EVs (Emissivity Values), so it is important to do a little research and understand what you are pointing it at in order to get a proper reading. The included manual insert has a useful table of materials and their EV, but you can find more substantial EV tables elsewhere on the internet.I was looking for an inexpensive non-contact thermometer for my grill so I could be sure that the grates were pre-heated to my intended range for consistent sear results. I didn't realize how many other uses I would end up finding for this thing. I have also been using it to check the temperature of distilled water I am heating up for my neti pot, finding drafts in windows and doorways, checking electrical components for troubleshooting, etc...I've checked the readings and EVs against several different surface probes and trusted thermometers (such as a Thermapen MK4) quite a bit before I decided that I could trust the readings I was getting, and I suggest that everyone do the same just to be sure it was properly calibrated before leaving the factory. The build quality is solid, and the thermometer feels comfortable in the hand. The display is easy to read and all of the buttons and settings feel responsive. This is the kind of product that requires a little research and understanding from the end user in order to get the proper results so I expect over time that this listing may receive some poor reviews due to end user error. Please keep that in mind before putting too much stock in reviews for this kind of product. With a basic understanding of how the product works, and using it within its limits, the results look to be as accurate as expected (within the listed margin of error stated by the manufacturer).I have no complaints. It is a solid product that is comfortable in the hand and its usefulness has proven to be an even better value than I had originally expected.

The construction quality of this thermometer seems solid and the laser pointer illuminating what it's aiming at is a nice touch. The thermometer is easy to use and automatically locks in the temperature measurement when you release the trigger. It additionally tells you the maximum temperature it observed while the trigger was pressed.Switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius was easy when following the instructions in the manual.I tried this out on lots of difference surfaces ranging from room temperature up to a portable dryer running at about 150 degrees F and it worked great for all of those, with measurements seeming to be right on.However, the low end of the claimed temperature range does not seem to be accurate at all. According to this thermometer, the items inside my refrigerator are sitting at about 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Obviously, that is not the case as my fridge isn't frozen. The items in the freezer were registering at about -15 to -20 Fahrenheit. While those items are indeed frozen, I strongly doubt that they're -15 F. It is for the low end of the claimed temperature range that I removed a star.
