This is a set of 4 solar cap lights for posts. The design of the clear plastic cover to showcase the light has a nice decorative effect to it.To test the light before attaching the bases to the posts, twist off the large base that it arrives attached to. Then do another twist of the light cover and the light top. This exposes the button switch for the lighting. Press the button as many times as needed to change between warm white, cool white, several different colors, and a color-changing mode. To turn off the light if needed, long-press the button switch. I did notice that when I turned it off and then turned it back on again, it was at the same mode where it had last been set. The instructions mention that the light unit must be in one of the on settings in order for the unit to collect the solar power. Twist the plastic light cover back onto the top.Choose the appropriate base for your post. keep in mind that there are inserts within both of the post covers. If the post cover isn't quite large enough for your post, remove that insert and it will likely fit. There are holes on the top of the post cover to use for attaching the cover to the post. Or use the side holes. (The choice will likely depend on your post.) 9 screws are included, 2 for each cap plus an extra one - so if you wish to use additional screws to attach the caps, you will need to purchase those separately.Once the post cover has been attached, twist the re-assembled light piece onto the cap.The solar panel on the top piece will accumulate power during the day and light up the area at night. Keep in mind that these are not floodlights or reading lights. These are for mood and ambience lighting. They will chase the shadows away enough to not trip over large pieces of furniture. But you likely won't be able to tell the difference between the raccoon and possum that climb up on your deck to snag the leftover food while you are seeing your guests to the door and starting the cleanup inside. These are great. You can change the color. . If u have trouble with the instructional diagram, here's the deal: Twist the cap off to access the color- changing button. Then twist it back on. I have 5 inch vinyl posts and these fit fine. Also, I found a chisel to be invaluable in removing the original post caps. Now I'm just waiting for the HOA police to object.

My family and I liked these a lot better than the other cap lights we purchased. The etched plastic almost makes them look like glass, and the lower profile was preferred over the bulkier lights offered on Amazon. Liked the ability to change the colors of the lights for the holidays. Haven't had for long so I can't speak on their battery life.Edited: one light wasn't working so changed to 4 stars.Edited. Customer service sent me 3 replacements for the 1 that wasn't working. Great service. 5 stars. Lights have been working great, and even stay on for hours on cloudy days.

These solar charging post cap lights have base plates for both 4x4 and 6x6 square posts. Changing the 6x6 plates as received to the 4x4 plates I needed was easily accomplished with a twist. The plates lock in place firmly, so I had to apply ample pressure to get the original ones to release. There are 8 mounting screws included which go into the 2 side holes of the each mounting plates. These can also be mounted using 4 holes in the top of each plate, set on a 2.25” square pattern.Square wooden posts are rather expensive; using a couple of pressure treated 2x4’s screwed together will substitute as a mounting post if you want to save some bucks. I had some of that lumber around and tested the fit before making this comment.Using those top holes in the plate allowed me to also mount the lights onto a large circular post I had been using for a bird box that fell apart after several years. I’m just throwing that out there in case you like the look of these and don’t want to buy special posts just to be able to enjoy the look. I’m all for saving money when I can.I mounted 2 of the lights on the vinyl posts at each side of the railing on the front steps using the 4x4 adapter. There are sleeves inside of the 4x4 adapters designed for attaching to wooden 4x4 posts which actually measure only 3½x3½; I had to remove those sleeves to fit the caps onto the vinyl posts. To open the housing for the light and access the power button and battery storage, you hold the lens portion of the light and twist the top. Again, the connection is solid and it requires just a bit of strength to get it open. That’s a good thing the top is not so easy to remove; it means the fit is tight and will keep out moisture.A power button inside of the housing is used to change to one of 8 constant colors, and a 9th setting will cycle through the 8 colors, fading in and out at about 9-second intervals. To turn off the light, you must hold the power button for about 3 seconds. When you power the light on again, it has a memory function of which selection was last used before it was powered down. The light is a subtle glow and doesn’t illuminate the surrounding area enough to clearly see the ground much beyond 8 feet out. The light, however, is visible from much further away and elevates the look of the front steps.Be sure to keep the instructions in a safe place. The instructions indicate the type of replacement batteries needed (600 Mah3.7V/Lithium). The original batteries are solid blue and do not have any nomenclature on the side to indicate the type.I really like the looks of these lights. Since I only really needed 2 of them, I now have 2 extras if something goes wrong.Per the instructions, I removed the batteries because the lights are going to be stored for a lengthy period. I left the plastic cover on the solar charging panel; if you don't have that cover you can improvise a cover to prevent the panel from being scratched. Before removing the batteries, I made sure they were fully charged. The instructions also state to charge the dormant batteries fully about every 2 months to maintain the life of the battery.
