Bought this to replace the OEM controller for my 1000W Bergey XL1, which finally burned up for good after 22 years. Needed a boost MPPT controller to charge at lower wind speeds, tho like all wind turbines output ranges from below nominal 24VDC to >45VDC depending on wind speed (wild voltage, current, and frequency). At only 23mph wind speed (~550W wind input), the AFITO immediately began BRAKE mode, causing supplied coil resistor to literally glow cherry red and scorching everything within 50cm of it. Triggered by too-high input voltage? Dump load should trigger off battery voltage, not turbine voltage! It also tried to alternator brake turbine, causing (first) the AFITO's battery-side circuitry to burn out (likely a MOSFET failed), then the turbine's stator to melt, leaving an open circuit fault and a very noisy night of turbine freewheeling.All told this AFITO unit (rated for 3000W turbine) survived less than 10 hours in service connected to a 1000W turbine, even below peak regulating wind speeds (Edit: I opened up unit to determine failure mode (which requires a T10 security Torx, BTW). Photo below. Fuse is not only blown, but melted. Who solders an automotive fuse directly to a PCB? Mount a socket so fuse can be replaced. Also, who thinks a 40A fuse can handle a 3000W wind turbine? The Bergey controller had a delayed-trip 60A circuit breaker & still kicked it sometimes. You will also notice the bridge rectifier (input diodes) and associated circuitry was in the process of de-soldering itself. Ten hours of medium winds did this. :/
