This thing saved me money big time. The model garbage disposal I have does not have a unjamming screw underneath it so this tool is the only way to dislodge any jams. You will not find this item at Lowe or Home Depot. It came very fast thru Amazon.

Wife was mad that our garbage disposal which was just over a year old stopped running. She thought we would have to replace it, after a little research I learned that this tool existed for it. Wish that the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) gave you this tool when you get your disposal, but it’s probably a cost savings for them. Try this tool before replacing your disposal!My particular disposal, a Waste King 111 doesn’t have a hex wrench port to turn the disposal. I also knew that it was jammed as I could hear the disposal hum, and manually trying to turn the grinder table and my wooden spoon technique didn’t provide enough torque on the grinding table, so I ordered this tool. Came fast, and easy to use. For as cheap as this tool is, there’s no anodizing that I can tell which might lead to rusting, but you might want to spray it down with WD-40 to provide a barrier to rust before using the tool.You hopefully won’t need a lot of strength to unjam the disposal, you’ll need to turn it back and forth a little to help unjam the disposal. The tool is hinged so that it can go down the narrow mouth of the disposal, and then it opens up. At least for me, the U shape of the tool interlocked with the little exposed blade of the disposal, and that’s what you use as leverage/interface to unjam.Tool stores away easily under the sink and out of mind.
