I buy a lot of used mics . . . many come with broken mounts if they have them at all. I bought this to use with a vintage AKG mic I got recently. It also fits other mics with similar unthreaded mic shafts like the AT4040. peace

This beauty worked wonders for me - holding my AKG Condenser mic above and beside me as I work. This object alone has saved me so much hassle - I used to have to have the mic far below me, as to not obfuscate my screen, or choose to obscure my activity just to get better audio on the mic. This thing is fantastic, though. It really does the job well.I do have two complaints, though:There's no horizontal manipulation, so you can't correct the side angle of the mount without unscrewing it or completely changing the orientation of the stand.Secondly, there are times when the lock holding the microphone up wiggles loose over time, and you have to re-seat the mic and fasten it down again. This only happens once in awhile, and it isn't that big of an issue - but this alone is what keeps it from being 5 star mount.

Not much to say. It's the correct OEM shock mount for the current crop of 414 mics that the music store sites are charging $85 for. Yes, it's almost entirely made of brittle plastic so if you get careless there's a good chance you'll crack it. But it's well designed and serves its purpose as long as you don't abuse it.

This is a great mount for old AKG Microphones, I have an old AKG C12B similar to the C414B and it works great. Looking at other models like the c2000b it should work fine. Great value.

I have a mid-80s AKG 414B-ULS, and the stock clip broke after a roommate borrowed it and tried to jam an SM57 inside. That clip (SA18, I think?) has been discontinued, and AKG doesn't make a new clip, just this and maybe one different shockmount that will fit. I was not 100% sure this would fit my vintage 414, as I figured the shaft diameter may have changed over the years, but it fits perfectly. I've used this mount with newer 414s, the XLII and XLS, and it fits them as well. I love the design-- it's easy to secure and release the mic with just a quick quarter-turn of the big knob on the bottom, and it holds the mic securely and isolates from low frequency rumble. But still, the price is pretty tough to swallow.Other options for a 414 clip or shockmount are limited-- Blue made the Ralph shockmount but discontinued production recently. Some vendors still have a few in stock, and they are cheaper but look very awkward. You can try an AKG SA40, but the fit is not totally perfect, and I wouldn't be comfortable hanging a 414 upside-down with that arrangement, which you may need to do in many recording situations.
