Our premium 50lb broadcast spreader with deflector offers an unmatched value available in any push spreader line. The heavy-duty hopper holds up to 50 pounds of granular materials, while the tough powder-coated frame and oversized, heavy-tread tires deliver long-lasting durability. To ensure that your Brinly spreader stands up against the elements, the P20-500BHDF includes a fully-enclosed gearbox to inhibit corrosion. A truly multi-functional tool, you can use your Brinly’s P20-500BHDF to spread fertilizer, grass seed, salt, snow and ice-melt agents, and more. With an easy-to-follow manual and fast assembly, you can get started without the set-up hassle. And then when the job is done, the 50-lb hopper size ensures you’ll be able to store your spreader even if space is limited. The assembly was not difficult and the over all quality is decent. However, performance was lack luster. The drop holes would keep getting clogged, even with a small sized fertilizer. I would have to rapidly open and close to free up the holes. This would happen every time I would shut off the holes to make a turn or come to an edge. Once the product was down to 1/4 full, the agitator is useless and does not get the product to go out of the drop holes. Overall, not happy with this unit.

I always read the reviews before making a purchase. There was some trepidation based on the reviews regarding product assembly and use. I put my trust in Brinly (a John Deere Co.) and bought the push spreader. Assembly was not difficult and took about 20 minutes including adding on the side guard. If you read the instructions carefully, watch the video, and have two 10 mm wrenches it is really hard to screw it up. There was a comprehensive chart showing the spreader settings for a wide variety of fertilizer and grass seed types. I followed the directions about how to apply the fertilizer and after a short learning curve I got the process down reasonably well. The true test will be in a couple of weeks when I can verify the weeds and dandelions are gone and I don't have any green streaks in my lawn. The spreader is well built, and I expect to have it for many years to come.

Good spreader for the price, easy to assemble. The joystick nut was too loose and cannot keep the handle at the same setting. Need to be thighten a bit. The only thons that is very poor is the agitator. It is too high from the bottom of the bin. It do not move anything. I will build a new one longer and lower to properly move the fertilizer over the holes.

The Brinly is a great unit. It was a little tricky to assemble the control lever, but the rest was simple. It works even better than I imagined and spreads granulars evenly and accurately. A little granular sprays back on your ankles, but not very much. You might have to shake or bounce the unit a little when it's running low, but overall that doesn't detract from the quality and ease of use for this spreader.

I can’t stand this spreader. I wish I could get my money back but it’s way beyond that point.I kept wanting to like it, but it’s flaws outweigh its pros.Pros-large pneumatic tires.Sturdy hopperside deflector attachment is nice to keep from throwing material everywhere. That’s it.The wheels feel wobbly on the axle drive and it feels a lot like driving a car in a cartoon. It’s just loose in the shaft/gear box whatever you want to describe it as and doesn’t seem to spin in a fluid way.No matter how hard I try to keep this thing at the perfect angle as I push and have no tilt, it seems to have a mind of its own on where it broadcasts the fertilizer or seed. You can be walking completely flat and sometimes it throws more left or right. It’s hard to explain- it’s just very inconsistentThe hopper isn’t funnel shaped, it’s more flat so you always end up with about 1/8th of your fertilizer/ seed where it will not come out. You have to either do a funky jig while you walk to get the product to go through the hole whilst moving it around inside the hopper, or you have to stop and shake all the material and lean the spreader to try to get it all around the hopper opening holes.I cannot stress enough how frustrating this is.Its also very easy to not fully open or close the hopper slots because it doesn’t really lock in either position. At first I liked the adjustable settings handle, but grew to hate it after several times of not spreading anything at all, or realizing it had slightly shaken to a different setting, or forgetting which way it is open or closed. You can read this and think “well I’m so smart I wouldn’t have that problem” yeah well, it’s not very intuitive and very easy to get mixed up on if it’s open or closed and either spill fertilizer all over the place, have it half open, or forget it’s closed, I promise! It’s very very large, whilst the hopper is actually small for the size.If you have a huge shed and don’t have any reservations on having a spot about the size of a lawn mower hanging on your wall or set on your floor, go for it. I thought I wanted something big and sturdy, and this thing just seems like it’s always in the way. (Could be a pro for some I guess) just really frustrates me how much space it takes up.The spreader setting handle that adjusts how much material comes out seems to not spread almost any product, especially if it isn’t tiny powder, I have to open the setting all the way to 15 in order to even notice anything coming out, and any higher, and the fertilizer or seed just pours out. On my old Scott’s spreaders of all different types and even drop spreaders each number and adjustment changes the product dispersal by a noticeable change. This thing you just kinda wing it. I also am constantly pulling the handle back to the open position I set because it works itself loose it seems like, and no I’ve tightened everything it is just a design flaw. I’ll be making a pass and notice nothing coming out, only to realize the setting handle worked itself down and I don’t know how much I need to back track! So irritating. I can’t stand this spreader save yourself the $200Either spend more money and get a lesco or golf course type spreader, or just save you some cash and get a Scott’s. Do not buy this I’m telling you, it’s not worth it.

This spreader was available more cheaply at home depot online, but without the side deflector. Since I did not want weed killer in my flower garden or the sidewalks, the deflector was worth the extra money. A pleasant surprise was that the deflector kit included a clear plastic cover for the hopper. it proved valuable in first use when a little rain fell before I finished.Pros - rolls easily over even bumpy terrain. Spreads smoothly, although as with any spreader you need to maintain a constant speed for a constant spread. The big hopper is great. Assembly was easy and quick. Really like the sturdiness. Covered stainless steel gears is a real plus. I think this will last a long time.Cons - It does not fold for storage, so it takes up some space in the garage. The spread rate took experimentation to get it right. I followed the best directions I could find on the weed & feed package and the Brinly instructions, but I ended up spreading at half the intended rate on my first try. Next time I will double the rate and it should be correct.Overall, very happy with the purchase.

I just bought one about 3 weeks ago. I love the unit. I have only used it once this season so far but I really like the unit. It was very simple to put together. Unit is very sturdy in my opinion. Air tires work well in the grass and pushes smoothly. The deflector works well and you can actually adjust the distance by how far you lower the deflector. The one thing you need to remember is to use the lever to close the hopper. If you stop walking and do not close the hopper opening it will continue to drop fertilizer on the spinner. I had a 2 yr old Scott's spreader and the deflector quit working. Decided to spend the money on a good unit and glad I did. Comes with a clear cover, grate and the side deflector.
