This is essentially a smaller version of an unmanned switch, I guess, but I like the smaller footprint and the fact that depending on your needs it's easier to relocate around a house or office than a switch. If you have a fixed # of connections needed or portability, it's a good product, well made, and works as described.

It's not really "splitting" but you probably already know that. I bought this because I hardwire everything in my home for speed. The kids can use the wifi. I get about 600mb down and 150 up on my desktop (hardwired) and when using the splitter, I don't see any difference at all. I can now hardwire my desktop and laptop with 1 50' cable (and 2 short ones) instead of having to set up a 2nd 50' hard wire.Love it.

I had too many ethernet lines running to my entertainment center and this helped reduce the clutter. Speeds are really good and the device is small enough to easily hide. Setup only took seconds to complete.
