Well ... Pro: you can use the display port on the target device instead of leaving it idle, works fine overall and recommend this product.Con: Only support HDMI -> Display Port one-way instead of dual ways.

Was exactly what I needed to use my old but trusty Dell U2711 with Display Port to get full 1440P with my new micro pc that has HDMI only. Unfortunately, the U2711 HDMI port is capped at 1080p. So this cable was necessary to get full resolution.

UPDATE: I just read the top-rated critical review for this product and wanted to respond: The fellow reviewer claims that after he connected a monitor to his computer using the adapter, the monitor was no longer properly responding to power-saving mode. This is not my experience. I have two monitors connected (see below), one with the adapter, and one straight-through, and they both gradually dim and go dark in perfect sync. When waking up, the one that is wired straight-through does come online a second or two faster. Whether that's due to the adapter, or simply because it's assigned "primary" duty, and displays the login challenge, I don't know. It doesn't seem to matter much, anyway. Whatever problems the other reviewer experienced may be rooted in his particular setup being incompatible with the adapter, or -- and this is my guess -- they may be entirely unrelated to the adapter. In either case, I don't experience these problemsEND OF UPDATEI bought a couple of older Dell UltraSharp U2713HM monitors that I needed to connect with my AMD Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX board running integrated graphics using a Ryzen 5 5600G CPU. The only problem with this setup is that the monitors run at their maximum QHD resolution only using DisplayPort connections. With HDMI connection they fall back to 1080p. But my motherboard only has one DP connector. This adapter solves this problem. It is able to plug into an unused HDMI port and a USB port (for power) on the PC side, and then connects that PC via DisplayPort cable to one of the monitors. The monitor accepts the connection as DisplayPort and runs at its full native 2560x1440 resolution with 60Hz refresh rate. There's no noticeable difference to the identical monitor that is connected to the "real" DP port on the PC. The adapter is driverless, and works fine under Linux. The whole switch from old 24" 1080p HDMI monitors to these "new-to-me" 27" QHD monitors didn't even require a shutdown and reboot. All hardware was recognized instantly by Ubuntu 22.04, without even requiring a shutdown.

I'm using this to connect a Dell U2412M monitor to a Raspberry Pi 4, as a second display. The DVI port on the monitor is already occupied, leaving me with DisplayPort, or VGA. The cable does work, but requires external power in the form of a USB port. The cable doesn't work well connected to a spare USB port on the Pi, which would be the clean setup. It seems that the cable takes a bit of time to become ready after power on, and the OS has already decided nothing is connected. It will work if I let the Pi boot, and then issue a reboot each time I power it up. The monitor is detected on the second boot.Instead, I have it connected to a 1 amp USB power brick. With the cable powered up before the Pi, the monitor is detected, and all is well. It's working, but for $33, it could work a lot better. There is another cable out there which does not require external power. Kinda wish I had tried that one.

So my intended use case was to get my Apple LED Cinema Display 27" which outputs 2560x1440 @ 60Hz using it's Mini Displayport cable. This monitor has the cable built into the device so an adapter is needed to change this. This specific adapter promises to actively convert Displayport 1.2 signals into HDMI 2.0 signals, theoretically providing up to 3820x2160 (4K) @ 60Hz max. It straight up does not. Right on the packaging it says it tops out at 30Hz, meaning this adapter cable is HDMI 1.4.I plugged this cable into the following devices. For sanity sake I ensured the passive Mini-DP to DP adapter from StarTech I have is working and gives no artifacts- PS4, Nintendo Switch with the official and a 3rd party dock, a MacBook Pro 15" 2015 with R7 370x GPU, PC with Asus Nvidia GTX 1080ti which has 2 DP 1.2 and 2 HDMI 2.0Pros:- Cable is smart and flexible, the HDMI portion isnt too bulky and can fit into tight spaces such as a Nintendo Switch dock or a MacBook Pro's HDMI port with a case installed- The USB cable for external power is flexible and moderately long enough (can reach the front of a PS4 or USB ports on a motherboard)- can at least push a push a picture.- Color quality is not washed out. Picture does not flicker. Accepts alternate resolutions aside from native.- sends correct ID info of the display, serial number of the display was picked up in macOS.Cons, which will cause me to return this:- It does not do 4K 60Hz max, meaning bandwidth limited- It does not have an enable signal for non-PC equipped devices so a console, set top box, etc will NOT ever recognize a display connected even if you do the correct connection sequence.-- 1. Plug USB into host device. 2. Make sure monitor's display cable is plugged into adapter already. 3. Plug HDMI from adapter into host- No sound via HDMI audio AT ALL! This Apple LED Cinema Display can output audio from both USB and DP on both macOS and Windows, meaning there is signal going through the protocol with no driver required.- ARTIFACTS! Regardless of port or host device, there is an artifact on the top of the display that does not go away. Changing resolution does not do this and it is running at 60Hz. I verified this artifact is not present using the passive mDP to DP so it is the HDMI adapter presenting this.- I really wanted to like this cable, there's an alternative from club3D but it seems I should've went with my gut and gone with a company that actually MAKES GRAPHICS CARDS TO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.The fact 4K60Hz is advertised is also disingenuous. This adapter is limited to HDMI 1.4 4K 30Hz and can't even send proper sense signals for a display that's been out to the public for 12 years. Please get something else and save yourself headache. To the manufacture, please invest in your product and improve it. You see there are over 1K reviews, there is demand and interest.
