These comments are for the recently (Dec 2024) purchased Gikfun SMD Infrared Reversing Radar Practice Soldering Kit Welding Training Board for Arduino DIY EK1950. Even if a source was provided on where to find the online PDF instructions for putting this kit together, I would not be able to proceed as 4 of the electronic components were received in a broken condition. Unfortunately, it's a another example of Chinese crapola.

It was straightforward to assemble (even with missing/poorly translated directions) and everything was included. But, it doesn't work and the directions aren't helpful. Either the lights are all on or all off, there is no between. It was good soldering practice though.

OK, so... this kit has a mix of simpler SMD and THT parts. The IC's may be a bit intimidating for beginner, but the pads are well sized for even an iron. All the silkscreen info is great at identifying what the part is based on the value. IC P1 ident is solid. Documentation is in english, and while a bit difficult on the RP1 and RP2 adjustments, otherwise solid. You wont have a question regarding what part value is which component, and what its designation is. Even the LED's have a beveled edge to identify GND, besides pin length. It seems you can tweak RP1 to trim the GRN LED reactivity, then adjust RP2 for the rest.In the end, I have GRN off until I put my hand at the appropriate distance, and as I move closer, YLW, and then RED trigger.I have been doing a lot of these practice kits, and this one was a great example of decent documentation, parts, and silkscreen.Really cant emphasize this enough, so many of these kits dont even come with docs in english, along with missing parts/incorrect parts, and poor silkscreen labeling.

I picked this up to learn soldering SMD components. This has a bunch of tiny SMD resistors, capacitors, and a few chips along with a bunch of larger through-hole components making it a balanced kit to build to get the hang of soldering. The instructions are adequate. The only thing you might need to be aware of is the two adjustable capacitors - one is 500k and the other 50k. They look the same, but there is a number on top that matches the part list in the instructions which then tell you where to put them on the board.I would suggest 4x reading glasses, a flux pen, curved tip tweezers, and a somewhat smaller soldering iron tip and a circuit board holder of some sort. You'll also want a 9V battery harness to power this. After doing this, SMD is not hard *at all*. After the first two resistors, you'll be flying through the build.

Although I am experienced at soldering, I never had experience in soldering SMD resistors. I bought this kit so that I could learn to solder SMD's and, if all went well, I would have a working circuit that I could use. The quality of the PC board is excellent and the instructions, though brief, are sufficient to assemble the board. The first two or three resistors did not come out "neatly", but as I gained experience it became easier and easier. The only problem I had is that the SMD resistors are so tiny that they are difficult to see and if you drop one, consider it gone! I was very pleased with the board but I have not been able to try it yet because I lost 4 of the SMD resistors and I will have to replace them. I do not suggest picking them up with tweezers because they sometimes snap out of the tweezers and are then impossible to find.

Good project for soldering practice. Instructions are clear. However once completed, all 3 LEDs are on and adjusting the potentiometers make no difference. Anyone else have any troubleshooting tips? I’ll check all my solder joints but from initial exam they all look good.

It was a good deal for the price, however mine did not come with all of the components. So I give it a one star. I didn't return it so that's on me. Maybe it was a fluke, I don't know.
