In the middle of the night 2 years a pipe burst under the kitchen sink. When I woke up later, the first floor and basement were flooded. Causing major damage. I have since placed these water detectors in every bathroom, by the furnace/water heater, washing machine and kitchen sink. One detector recently alerted me to a small drip from one of the toilet tanks. A plumber fixed the problem, but pointed out how a burst water connection could have caused a major flood. Every house should have water detectors like this. When they detect water they make a very loud alarm sound and send a notification to the app on my cell phone. I have also installed a WiFi connected water main shut off controller, so I can now shut the water main from an app on my cell phone from anywhere.

These have worked perfectly. Before we had a B-dry waterproofing system installed in our basement, these alerted us to water ingress. They appear very reliable. Have had a few splashes on the top of the ones in the bathroom and laundry room, and they have notified us too. Batteries last a long time, and alert you via a noise from the unit when they need changing. Very happy, and recommend.

I bought two sets of these in September 2022 and I am reviewing them in January 2024.These sensors are an effective and economical water leak detection system. When purchased as sets (gateway plus various numbers of sensors) they come with the sensors pre-matched to the gateway so to use them you simply need to get the app and register and then connect the gateway to the app and Wi-Fi and the sensors automatically come on line as soon as you pull out their insulating strips. As far as I know each gateway can only serve up to ten sensors. The sensors remain consuming nearly no battery power unless water is detected - at which time the sensor will sound its own audible alarm and alert the user via app push notification and email. The sensor will also notify the user when its battery is critically low. Several of my 14 sensors are still on their original batteries from 15 months ago and none of them have needed more than one battery replacement in this period.I received prompt and cheerful tech support after 15 months and my issue turned out to be an outdated app which was only discovered after the vendor had already supplied me with a complimentary replacement gateway. I am more than pleased with this encounter and glad that I choose Govee both for these water leak detectors and also for my temperature/humidity sensor system. If I were starting over I would choose Govee again. In my 15 months I've only found two drawbacks to this system.1. The same feature set that provides long battery life has a pitfall. If the batteries run down in a non-linear manner or if there is sudden battery failure you will not be notified. The sensors are supposed to reach out to the gateway at a certain low battery percentage (let's say 5% or 10%). But if something causes the battery to precipitously drop from 20% to zero you will not be notified and you will lose protection. The only way to protect yourself against this is to periodically test every sensor with water. I would consider the odds of this occurring low and I accept this risk.2. Other reviewers have noted that the water sensor electrodes are a tiny distance above the floor so they will not detect the tiniest of seeps. You can file or grind down the plastic feet to make the electrodes closer to the floor or touch the floor if you wish as at least one other reviewer has done - or you can leave them as-is as I've chosen to do.

It takes a lot of time to set it up. Not as friendly as Notion, Ring and Kansas sensors

We purchased an older condominium last year and installed these water detectors. It was a good thing we did as we’ve had a few minor leaks.Apparently, our sink in the kitchen is not well sealed around the edges and if you have an overzealous son washing dishes, water may go to the floor underneath the sink. 😞The drain in the master bathroom decided to back up a bit and dripped water underneath the sink. The drain line for the air conditioner was plugged, and when the water backed up in the AC unit, it set off the alarm.Once you figure out that these little things only work on the lower frequency of your router and can configure them using the same frequency setting on your phone, it’s pretty easy and straightforward to do the six additional units.

Recently had insurance claim for water damage from dishwasher. We didn't even catch it until we saw drywall damage on the ceiling below it.Bottom line, get it. Super cheap way to ensure you are protected even if you have insurance. Going through insurance claims suck. The devices are loud enough to hear from anywhere in a 2500sq ft home. It's not as loud as a smoke alarm. I tested all of the sensors. Looked like it works by detecting short circuit of probes due to water contact. Just wipe and replace. After first day, the under sink sensor tripped. Turns out there was a very slow leak, too small to detect. It sounded the alarm and sure enough, found dampness under the p-trap. Tightened the pipes and good to go.Setting it up could be easier. You have to have the sensors near the base before you set up because there are buttons to press. So set it up before you place the sensors if you get the base. You can use without the base and it'll sound locally.

I bought this and returned it because the set up was so difficult. I’ve set up security cameras, Wi-Fi thermostats, routers and Wi-Fi extenders before without any issue. This water detector set up was so complicated and frustrating. I got frustrated with it and returned. The person who wrote the instructions obviously never tried to use them.
