LOVE this tool. Once your frets are level this allows you to dress your frets at several angles.

Bought this on a whim. Wanted to level the frets on my Ibanez but did not want to spend a lot for a fret leveling beam. The beam is extremely well built. Nice weight to it and looks great. Leveling the frets was a breeze with this bad boy. I would recommend this to anyone who is starting to maintain their own guitars or basses. Definitely getting another one as a backup.

I really like this sanding beam! I got it to learn to level the frets on my guitars because I'd rather learn to do it myself than pay someone a lot of money to do this for all of my guitars with money I may or may noot have! LOLFirst, this beam is FLAT within 0.001". I worked at a machine shop. I asked our QC tech to measure it. A couple of my machinist friends were impressed that this bar was as flat as it is for the price of the bar.I got the aluminum version. It's very light, so you'll have to develop a feel for how much pressure you want to use. The stainless steel version is much heavier, and you don't apply a lot of pressure with that one- you let the weight of the bar do the work. But it's also easy to over sand if you're not careful. The kit comes with some self-adhesive sanding strips to get you started, three of each grit: 120, 240, 320, and 600. The strips are cut so that they almost cover the entire side of the bar, with only a tiny bit of metal showing. (pic 1)The sanding bar seems to be anodized, so the surface is tougher than raw aluminum, but it's still aluminum. Treat it gently, and don't get any nicks on the sanding surface, because that will mess up the flatness of the bar. That brings me to the packaging. I wish the packaging was better. My sanding bar arrived with a little damage to the box (pic 2), and fortunately, the bar was not damaged. If this came in a larger box with a foam or styrofoam (or equivalent) tray that the bar sat it, it would serve to better protect the bar during shipping, and it would be in a safe spot for storage when you're not using it.Overall, this sanding bar is a fantastic deal for the money.

This fret level is pretty good quality for the price. I beveled the edges to be on the safe side. I also loaded it with air soft pellets to give it some weight. I applied a little bit of hot glue inside the caps to keep the pellets tight. The extra weight allows the level to dress the frets without pressing down. I feel this gives me a more consistent pass across the frets. I only gave it 4 stars because the level was not dead flat. I used a buddies Fret Guru to check straightness. I could see it was out by a couple thousands (by eye) at most. I used his Fret Guru and a couple of passes and bingo zero clearance between the 2. I know his level was dead on because I used it on multiple guitars. I'm pretty sure this level would have been fine right out of the box but I'm a perfectionist...what can I say. I haven't leveled frets with this yet but I'm confident this will do an excellent job. I would say purchase this tool. It's 1/2 the price of the Fret Guru and it will get the job done.
