Comes out of the box sharp. I was amaze how sharp it was and the edge held up pretty well. The only thing i didnt like is the size of the hand. Its SO BIG so i ended up grinding the handle down so it has a slimmer profile. The bigger handle makes the weight balance off a little. Overall, good chisel for the price.

I have a number of different Narex chisels purchased over the years.Typically I will buy Narex when I need to grind a chisel down to make specific shapes like miniature fishtail for tiny dovetails etc.The backs on these were much flatter and better machined than I have previously seen with this brand.The company has obviously spent a bunch of money for social media, YouTube placement etc. which explains their popularity.The steel used won’t hold an edge like more expensive chisels but works.Narex has used a bunch of different woods and shapes for handles over the years. The wood used on these chisels is better than previous models. The shape, in my opinion is very large and uncomfortable. Some previous models had handles which marketed as high end hardwood etc but were absolute garbage.Worth noting that the 4mm sold here has straight not beveled sides so can’t be used for a lot of dovetailing tasks. Relatively easy fix with a Benchtop belt sander for the experienced user.
