Excellent speed squares. I've had a 6" for years, always a useful tool. I never thought I'd need or justify buying a 12" one, but the two pack gave me an excuse to get one after misplacing my old 6". They are both metal, easy to read high contrast markings, and the 12" is perfect when working with 2x8s up to 2x12s with ease. Perfect for cutting rafters or any framing component you may find yourself needing an angled or straight cut. Good value if you find yourself needing speed squares especially a 12".

My go-to speed square is a 12" Swanson, which is awesome, but I wanted a 7" for small spaces, and a second 12" to keep at the table saw. I think Swanson is the de facto standard in speed squares, so I'll benchmark my evaluation to them.Accuracy: 5/5I tested the squareness and they're both dead square (I drew a line along the edge, then flipped the square and drew another line and checked if they overlapped exactly - they did, meaning the square is 90º). The raised edges are nice, flat and balanced - I like to store my speed square standing on their edges to save bench space, and they are stable when standing with zero wobble.Durability: 4/5Compared to Swanson, this 12" square is slightly thinner gauge aluminum, but still plenty thick. I've dropped it a few times on the concrete shop floor without denting it. The coating is painted, which is not ideal. I did try rubbing the coating with acetone to see if it can handle being around solvents in a shop, and it stayed intact, so that's good (a dollar store square would lose its painted markings immediately). But it chips easily from things like running a marking knife along its edge. The Swanson has deeply etched markings that can easily survive being scratched. These aren't etched at all. If the coating wears out, that's it, no more markings. They're objectively not as durable, so -1 star.Usability: 4.5/5They both have standard carpentry markings like roof rafter angles, scribing notches, etc. The 11" point isn't marked for some reason. To make up for that, the inch markings go down to 16ths, which I love. I always felt the Swanson came up short when I needed more precision than 1/4" - just because it's for rough-and-tumble work doesn't mean it can't also be precise! Two things I sorta like better than the Swanson: Instead of the big triangular gap in the middle, they filled it with these drill gauge holes, which are more useful than a big handful of air. They're not actually accurate - the 5/16" hole doesn't actually fit a 5/16" drill bit. Also the size choices are odd - I don't know what drill sizes professional carpenters prefer, but I'm building a deck and drilling lots of 3/16 and 1/4 holes, yet neither is included in the gauges. Meanwhile they have a ton of 64ths…why? What they're useful for though, is hooking my fingers through so it's easier to hold the square against my stock while I'm marking it. Very convenient and ergonomic. And I suppose if I need a bunch of small circle templates, I'm all set. Like I said, better than nothing. The other nice thing is the pivot point in the corner is notched so you can actually anchor a pencil tip or a nail through it and…you know…pivot. I always wondered why the Swanson doesn't have that, and worry when I'm measuring angles that I wandered off the pivot point. The lips are wider on these than the Swanson, which helps a tiny bit when hooking onto stock edges, and helps with stability when they're stored standing up. It helps that they're well-machined and dead flat. Also, the description and the box say "foldable" but I have no idea what they mean. There's nothing foldable about these. They're just chunks of cast aluminum like any other speed square.Overall: 4.5/5, rounded up to 5Overall, while I wish the markings were deeply etched and the coating more durable (or just no chippable coating at all), I like these a lot. They feel very nice and solid to use. They already saved me once when my table saw miter gauge slipped off 90º. Only by a little, but the 7" square found it. Good additions to the shop!

The Preciva Carpenter Square Set, 12 inch (1/16" Scale) and 7 inch Rafter Square is as professional a tool as I've seen. The set is heavy gauge aluminum and feels very sturdy. The markings are laser calibrated, which makes it highly precise. The markings aren't recessed like traditional squares, but are on the surface, possibly laser engraved, but it doesn't claim that they are. I did a little scraping on the Preciva name to see if it came off easily. It didn't. I believe the markings will likely hold up when rubbing against other tools in a tool box or canvas bag, All the markings on both sides are in inches and inch fractions. This is not a metric tool. The indentations for scribing a line are deep, so a pencil will not slip when sliding along the edge of a board. It has all the features of standard squares plus some extras, such as hole gauges to find the size of drill bits or bolts - from 1/8" to 19/32" on the 7 inch rafter square and 1/8" to 35/64" on the 12" one.The image and the box say it's foldable. I used Google Translate on the wording on the back side of the box and it translated it as collapsible (see photo) Either way, I sense it's a poor translation from Chinese because these are solid non-foldable tools. Maybe the idea is that they nest well and don't take up much space.👉Disclaimer-I was invited to give candid reviews for items provided to me as a promotion through Amazon Vine. What can I say it's a all metal large square. I got it so I could make 2x12s and got a bonus small one!
