Good timer and great to have something I can control from afar as long as it's in range of my WiFi. Easy to use, intuitive buttons and does the job easily

I had some issues setting things up. I contacted support and they told me I needed to install a newer/different version of the App. Apparently, the QR code on the box sends you to the "old" app. There is NO way I would have found the new App on my own as the name was totally different. HomGar is the name of the new App. - Also, I guess I misunderstood the rain delay component of this. I thought it would auto-defer watering if it was raining in the area or planned to rain. That is not the case from what I've seen. Everything is still manual for that. The Two-Way device shows up a little weird in the App as well. It looks like two separate devices but each one shows two zones. It makes setting up plans and such a little confusing. I also ordered an in-ground sensor and was hoping that it would auto-water based on detected moisture in the soil, but alas, I haven't found a way to do that either. Pretty much everything is manual. You can set up a watering plan but not a dynamic watering plan.

I really love my smart timers. I now have them for all my soakers/sprinklers.Regarding the 2.4ghz connection. Apparently many folks get frustrated when smart devices do not connect to the 5ghz wifi. Please understand that most basic smart devices (lightbulbs, outlets, cameras, switches, etc) use the 2.4. This is because the 2.4ghz has a longer reach and can better connect and hold that connection between your router and device. Also, if your device(s) keep getting knocked offline, you will want to go into your router and increase the number of devices it will connect with. By default, my router allowed up to 10 devices to connect to the 2.4ghz channel. Doing an internet search, I found instructions and went into my router's system and upped that to 100 devices. My devices no longer get knocked offline constantly.BEFORE YOU BUY YOUR FIRST SMART TIMER:If you are going to smartify your watering, pick a system and stick with it. I didn't do this. My first two timers were different makes. Fortunately, they were compatible with each other so I only needed to use one hub and one app. But, then I got a Rainpoint single timer. It uses a proprietary app and its own hub. Again, fortunately, I was putting that one in the backyard so the additional hub was fine (that hub went by the back door while the other was by the front of the house). When I started looking a dual zone timers to add to the backyard, I quickly realized that Rainpoint has different model families of smart timersand they don't all work with the same hub/app. Fortunately, I saw this BEFOREI bought a dual timer so I was able to select the model that connects with my existing Rainpoint timer. This made set up a breeze. Install batteries, go into the one Rainpoint app and add it. It connected to the existing hub immediately and was ready to go.With that, you will avoid the majority of complaints regarding the Rainpoint timers (they don't use the same app or hub).As for the timer itself. It came with everything needed to install and go, except the 4 AA batteries needed for the timer. Just plug the hub into a location close to where you'll be installing the timer. In my case, the hub is plugged in inside the house by the back door and the timer is connected to the tap just outside the door - so nice and close for a good connection. Open the appropriate Rainpoint app and add the hub. Then install the batteries to the timer and add that device. For ease, I did that app work with the timer on my lap inside. Once connected, I took it out and attached it to the tap and hose. When attaching the timer, use the tape included to wrap the threads. It makes a difference. Also make sure the washers are seated inside the female ends - they can fall out and then you'll have leaking. One tip to offer: if your tap is low to the ground, the timer can be a pain to connect. In that case, get a short "extension" hose of 3-6 inches and place that between the tap and the timer. As I only have one tap in my backyard, I installed a 6 inch extender to the tap, then installed a 4-way splitter to the extender. This allows the timers and other hoses to easily connect to the four splitter taps. No more scraping your knuckles trying to connect in an awkward position.Scheduling your watering is easy. You can schedule an intermittent watering scheduling (10 minutes on, 30 minutes off, 10 minutes on) or a regular watering schedule. Select how long for it to run and what days of the week. Note: scheduling must be once a week or more. These timers do not allow for once every two weeks. Turn on the tap and you're set. The timer will open its internal tap and the water will flow according to the schedule. What I love with these smart timers over regular timers, is that if I rains, I do not have to go out and manually turn off the main tap. I simply go into the app and turn off the schedule. And that means, that when I suddenly wake up at 3 am and realize I didn't turn everything back on and there is no rain in the forecast, I can simply grab my phone and turn the schedule back on. And if it rains, I can go into my phone and turn off the schedule so I don't water unnecessarily. No more running outside in the rain to turn off all the taps.In addition, if I have the sprinkler turned on and need to cross its path, I can simply grab my phone, turn off the timer tap, cross the space to do what I need to do, cross back over and then turn the timer tap back on. With dumb timers, I had to run through the sprinkler to reach the tap, turn it on, do what I needed to do, turn the tap back on, then race through the running sprinkler again. It'sreally nice not getting wet anymore. This dual timer is nice. You can attach two separate hoses and schedule them independently of each other. The only negative is that in the app, the two tap outlets are identified as Zone 1 and Zone 2. You can add a descriptor but that won't show up on the main screen. So you have to remember if Zone 1 is the east side hose or the west side hose, etc. But that is a minor complaint for the benefits.

I have an extensive garden of drip and soaker hoses and run multiple timers all three seasons. This is my first wifi timer and I'll give my first impressions compared to my old school ones.Setup was okay. You must download the RainPoint app, which is fine if you plan to make everything wifi. But then you also need a hub connected inside to power, which then connects to the hose timer. You schedule the timer via the app, which is also the only way to schedule the timer. No button or interfaces on the unit itself beyond being able to turn a port on/off manually. I don't really find this to be a benefit given how easy it is to use a non-digital hose timer with scheduling functions.Plus the timer has plastic connections, which don't fair as well in Texas heat. I'll use it, but I am not sure I'm sold on a wifi water timer.

It’s still too cold to test outdoor, but was able to connect to phone and control no problem. Hopefully this can keep our garden alive while we are going out durning the summer.

Due to winter's freezing temperatures, I haven't connected this device outside yet. However, I tested it indoors by inserting batteries, connecting it to the RainPoint hub, and adding it to the app. It works fine; I can easily control the switches over Wi-Fi.The biggest value is if you have other devices from RainPoint. In my case, I already have soil meters, rain meters, and so on, so I could easily integrate them into setups that will water when it's really needed. Now, I can go on vacation without worrying about the summer heat affecting my garden!Counting water usage is a nice touch. It's really interesting to see how much watering my garden contributes to total usage.Connections are good. Use plumber's tape and don't overtighten them - I use tons of automatic sprinklers with plastic fittings, and they work fine.Recommended for people who like hassle-free automation and control. It's not for you if you prefer to manually enable them.
