When it comes to tools, I have always believed in the old adage "Cry once or cry many times". Quality tools are expensive and you will cry at the time you pay that price, but you will be so happy when you use them. I am new to wood turning and I know there are much better turning tools than these, but I consider these a quality introductory set. Far far better than the used Craftsman set I was gifted.

I made part of my living using English and Swiss carving tools. From my experience, any tool has the probability of breaking.For my retirement, I was planning to include some woodturning. I purchased a lathe and a few accessories that I would need. I did some research on turning gouges and chose this set. Made in England. The gouges are measured at the flute (3/8" bowl gouge has a 1/2" shaft), which is the perfect size for most bowl work. I added a 1/2" Sorby Spindle gouge for cleanup and larger spindle work. I'm finding that the large Spindle gouge can also be used on the outside of small bowls.This is a great set of gouges for beginner or more advance turners. It includes all of the tools for Spindle or Bowl work. You may want to add an inside bowl scraper.

I have been turning for over 10 years and final purchased a Sorby set. They are without a doubt one of the finest turning tools available. Very sturdy and keeps a sharp edge longer than other tools.

Seem like good tools except for the parting tool witch snapped right at the handle the first time I used it. The rest of the tools worked good once you sharpen them.

Nice, solid set. Still need to learn how to sharpen them but they carve very well and it's nice to have the set.

I read some other reviews that these are Grizzly chisels? Maybe I Read wrong but these are certainly Robert Sorby chisels made in Sheffield England. Top Top quality. You cannot go wrong with it.I believe it was shipped by Grizzly though... came in a nice box. Nothing wrong with them whatsoever.You can plan on sharpening these before use to whatever angle you desire - this is standard for all turning tools that are bought brand new. I also read someplace else someone complaining they weren't sharp. They aren't! But that is par for the industry. You have to sharpen them yourself.
