Sony's slim-design WM-FX195 stereo cassette player is portable enough--and, at under half a pound with batteries--light enough to go anywhere you do. In addition to playing tapes, the Walkman offers FM stereo and wideband AM radio reception. An anti-rolling mechanism maintains low wow and flutter by steadying the tape when you're running or walking, and an FM local/distant (DX) switch improves reception of fuzzy stations.

The player's automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) maintains an even volume level, guarding against unintended level increases and evening the output of musical passages that vary widely in level. A switch adjusts the sound to accommodate metal-oxide tapes, and Mega Bass produces deep, rich bass tones.

Automatic shut-off (in playback mode) extends battery life and helps prevent both mechanical and tape wear by turning off unit at the end of each tape side. Finally, an anti-rolling mechanism maintains stable tape speed to minimize music-distorting "wow and flutter" while the player is in motion.

Supplied MDR-026 over-ear headphones offer wide dynamic range and clear sound, and the unit also comes with a belt clip. Two AA batteries provide up to 25 hours of continuous tape playback (maximum, using Sony Alkaline batteries), or up to 55 hours of FM radio reception. And in case you don't keep count of the hours, a handy LED battery indicator warns you when it's time to switch.

What's in the Box

There wasn't anything I didn't like about any order I make. I needed another walkman. Amazon had the brand I like. You can't find walkman's in stores anymore that I'm aware of. So Amazon always has what you are looking for.

No headphones, but whatever, I have a working walkman. I can listen to my cassette tapes : ) value for money, considering the high prices on other working ones, the value for the money was acceptable.

The radio works very well with great sound. Has had for two years and no issue. The cassette player stopped working after one year which was heart breaking because I purchased this item for the use of the cassette player to listen to old classics while cutting the lawn.

Works as great as the Walkman I had donated to Goodwill years ago. Found I needed something to play all the cassette recordings, music etc. that I still had. Gave only 3 stars for value for money, since for $44.99 it did not come with the belt clip or earphones as expected. Fortunately, my iPod earphones work with it so I did not have to purchase any.

When it arrived, before I opened it, it looked as if the packaging was old. Examining it, I saw the statement, "Copyright 2000" - what! This tape player is 20 years old? I did a Google search on the model production and I read that Sony produced this in 1999. Tape players use rubber belts to drive the tape. In 20 years it's very likely that the rubber had deteriorated. Secondly, the headphones have foam on them, it's likely that the moment someone tried them on the foam would flake away. Perhaps the digital radio would work, but spending over $200 for a tape player that probably wouldn't work, or at best wouldn't likely work for long is a waste. Without opening the packaging I sent it back to Amazon. Amazon shipped promptly, the return was easy, and I received full credit quickly.

You absolutely saved my dads life he is 78 and hid recorder was about to die and this is the only one that he knows how to control also likes the xtra bass feature. When his finally broke he was heartbroken. Cause he loves the Beatles and takes bike rides every sat/sun. When this arrived I told him to open the box that I bought him something similar. As he opened it the brightest smile and tear arose. Like I he was so happy. He wanted me to also to say thanks to you. The other I saw was 199.00 a little pricy but still in package. You really a true angel for my father. Tanks

This walkman has great response for the price. Great bass, although I'd wish for clearer highs. The walkman itself isn't constructed of high grade materials, but, for the price, what more can you ask for? I purchased mine for 39.95 plus shipping (4.95). Honestly, now that they're not being made anymore, they're becoming a collector's item, and will fetch that price of rarity. There isn't any noise cancellation, but I never really liked how they colored the sound- I prefer the authentic tape experience with a somewhat analog quality noise floor. If you don't like a bit of hiss, don't listen to tapes! I'm very pleased with this player.
