I heard about this from a friend in Law Enforcement who let me try his. I am shocked at how well it works. It is well-built and fits precisely on a budget build and a high-dollar rifle BCG. If you are reading the reviews, STOP and buy this!! I will never be without it.This is a real review written 12/31/2024

Best tool to clean carbon off the bolt, not as effective cleaning the firing pin. I bought it for $20 on prime deal day, worth it.

You've probably read reviews claiming how much you need this tool. I had. I thought the price was high for a little scraper. I received it several days after a trip to the range, after I had already cleaned my rifle. I decided to disassemble my BCG anyway just to check the fit of the tool. I could hardly believe the amount of carbon I scraped off my previously "clean" parts. This is the first AR-15 I own and this was the first trip to the range with it, so just over 100 rounds or so down the barrel. I discovered that they're very dirty guns. Carbon seems to get in places that it just doesn't go on any of my other rifles. This little tool is well made and well thought out. It works well for cleaning various surfaces plus the firing pin, it is engineered with close tolerances to be particularly effective in cleaning the rear of the bolt. I hope I get a few thousand rounds through the rifle since I'm looking forward to hours and hours of cleaning with this tool.My only regret is that I didn't get two! I often go shooting with my son then we come home and clean our rifles at the same time, I can definitely foresee some challenges coming for "dibs" on this tool.

I have bought a number of these. Not only do I have one for myself but they make great gifts for both my military brethren and my civilian friends and family. The Cat tool is just the best cleaning tool on the market hands down. I've tried the BONE and other products that work ok, this works great. If you carry a multi-tool and this, you'll be able to tackle most cleaning tasks on an AR/M-4 platform with ease. Even the so called AR multi-tools themselves don't work as good as this tool at cleaning the bolt, the bolt carrier, and the firing pin; undoubtedly the dirtiest parts, and hardest parts to keep clean. Within moments of disassembly, your weapon can be clean enough to reassemble and fire flawlessly. The option to use cleaning patches to really "GI" the crap out of your rifle is there too, but the idea that I can rip my gun down, give it a quick scrape, put it back together in order to be operational in moments, is a huge plus for me.

I think like most people, I ordered this after seeing it on the hickok45 video. I also think like most people, I never had any issues cleaning the ar15 and it always ran perfectly smoothly.I recently upgraded my bolt carrier group on my ar15 and decided to test the tool out on my old bolt carrier I had stored away. I first inspected the bolt carrier group and couldn't see anything out right that stands out however, I notice the following: 1) a black ring around the firing pin, 2) a black ring inside the bolt carrier where the bolt goes in. So with that in mind, I started using the tool on my firing pin. To my amazement the ring started to come off. The firing pin looks brand new and on my shirt was dust from the carbon build up. I personally said, "Wow, that's pretty cool." Next, I took the tool and put it into the bolt carrier where the bolt slips in. Using a flash light and turning the tool, again dust came down on my shirt, shined the flash light in, and again saw it looked brand new. After removing what I saw, I decided for the heck of it to pick up my bolt, which to me looked fine, and run the tool on it. Again I noticed dust started to fall down on my shirt indicating it was scrapping off old carbon buildup.I am totally surprised. I will definitely be buying some scrappers and pickers to clean my gun more but yes this tool really works. However, I like most people I think key thing here is that you don't really need this tool but then again it takes off some of those hard to reach places on your bolt carrier group and make you item look brand spanking new.Judging by some of the advice I seen about this tool, I highly not recommend carrying this onto the range. That is unless you plan on having burns all over you hands. Taking apart the bolt carrier group on the range or on the field is probably a bit too much. I shot hundreds of rounds at the range and so long as you clean the weapon before you go there and drop some oil in, you should never need to take the ar15 apart at the range, at least from my experience, and even out on the field, I can't imagine having to take the rifle apart. If it's that bad then you probably got a pretty horrible cleaning habit or using really dirty ammo.

(1) I like to clean my weapons every time I go to the range. (2) I love gadgets. (3) I never had any real trouble cleaning my bolt-carrier group in the first place. However, when I saw a tool that claimed to do so many tasked I had to give it a try. After using it several times, I am pleased with the tools performance. Everything is sized just right allowing access and cleaning of areas many just skip. I am sure this tool would be even more valuable to someone who had neglected their weapon, as it eases the tedious task of scraping "built-up" carbon fouling from all the nooks and crannies and key areas of the bolt-carrier group. What keeps this tool from earning 5 stars is price. I'm just not sure the value it provides is worth it the price you pay. I would be all in at $9.95, or even $19.95, but no this little piece of cast metal in a zip lock baggies cost $33.50 here on Amazon. You find it a little cheaper at Midway, but you'll pay shipping. In the end, it's really up to you. Yes it will help clean up a really could bolt-carrie group. But if your weapon stays relatively clean, your money may be best spent on another accessory.
