Looks way better than the previous which had dry rot. Had to snip the boot to slide over the Shifter. Might use a black zip tie to keep the slit from growing.

I installed the doorman shift boot by disassembling the steering wheel components an passing the shifter through the top of the boot. Once installed, the boot will not stay in place. with operation of the shifter, the boot comes out of the collar and now it is splitting and will not stay in place. The material that the boot is made of is too stiff compared to the OEM boot. I'm hoping to be able to replace the doorman shift boot with an OEM part.

Product visually looks similar to OEM, but it’s made of different materials that impede installation and usability. The boot bezel mounting tabs are made of a softer material than OEM, so it doesn’t stay locked into position when shifting from the highest to lowest position. The shift boot material is thicker, less pliable and less elastomeric. It rips if trying to install via sliding over shifter knob (even after heating boot and using silicone grease/saran wrap method). It’s rigidity also contributes to boot bezel unseating from column trim when shifting. Manufacturer needs to revaluate and select better materials as it currently doesn’t work. Recycled this and reinstalled OEM boot.

The original part had well-conditioned rubber in the actual boot area, and the plastic frame and tabs were a more rigid plastic. This Dorman part is one piece of moulded rubber that achieves an extremely inept middle-ground where the frame is too soft to actually grip the console properly, and the boot is too stiff to properly move and deform. This causes two issues, both of which are critical failures of the part:1. The frame does not stay seated on the steering column when moving the gear shifter up and down.2. The tip of the boot (the open hole at the top) split down the mould seam within two days, due to not being able to properly squash and deform while under the everyday stress of normal gear shifting. Both of these issues actually made the part look worse than the original within two days of installing it. It would have been more effective to light my $15 on fire - at least then I wouldn't have wasted my (more valuable) time installing this part.

Works great. Kind of stiff. But overall its worth it.

Ripped fairly quickly. It ripped in the same place as the original, but that one lasted 17 years. There is force applied to the top of the boot when you shift into park (pulls up on the boot. Over time, this causes a split on top because the boot is not flexible enough to withstand it. Overall, the entire piece is less flexible than the original. I just ended up trimming off the split section to prevent further splitting. Looks less than perfect. Wish I had just done that to the original. Finally, because it is so stiff, it won't contour to the panel and I had to glue it in with silicone adhesive. Otherwise it popped loose constantly. Not too impressive.

The boot has a couple of tabs which are intended to retain the boot in position. However, these are either too small or too flexible because the boot keeps popping out of the plastic steering wheel shroud. Any slight bump causes it to pop out, including slight contact while removing the key. It pops-out almost every day. Also, after 8 months of use, the rubber no longer maintains a tight seal around the shift lever (see pic).
