This product has saved me over and over. When you have a leak that you don’t find right away you can end up with a mould problem before you know it. Mould can grow in as little as r8 hours.

This is our second order of this item, and we have found them to be great: once activated, the siren is not loud, but it is high-pitched and loud enough to alert anyone within 2 or 3 rooms of a home. It is invaluable to know that you have a leak in time to actually do something about it !! As a DIY homeowner note, that white plastic "plumbing" under the kitchen sink does NOT tolerate much banging or shoving if you have tight space under there--so a connection can be forced loose, causing a leak, with not much of a bump or bang. These units are good insurance against a real long-term leak and floor damage.

Opened the door to the basement and heard the buzzing sound and found that our hot water heater was leaking water. Saved our basement from getting flooded!

I have had these under all my sinks for years but never had the opportunity to find out if it actually would work until now. You can't test it because once the alarm goes off, it's done. They are not reusable. So I was doing something with my kitchen faucet and thought I had turned off the water control under my sink. It turned out there were two controls (hot and cold) so I had only turned off one. Water started leaking under the sink and the alarm went off.It was probably down there for about 5 years so they do have a good lifespan. I just bought another 4-pack. I recommend these! The value is good and they work.

These water alarms are great and work very well. They do have a two year warranty and some may last longer but safer to change them in case of water leakage.

As the battery is never engaged unless triggered you would assume it will for many years but Honeywell only rates the batteries for 2 years. For Wifi connected I would assume limited battery life because it periodically has to communicate with the router why this little guy? So you save a few bucks but is it worth it? Not sure, will probably go for wifi when the prices come down a bit more. If you want this to alert you when when you're away from the house it can't do that. I hear in the US Alexa has a system where that listens for alarm sounds in the house so I guess we can wait for that.Just in case you're wondering, there is a sponge on the bottom that expands after it absorbs water so two metal contacts conduct electricity through the wet sponge, that's what triggers the alarm. As the sponge doesn't go back to the original shape it is not easy to put it back together to reuse it but theoretically possible.

They are as advertised........ simple to install & reliable....... Presently I've just installed my 4th set of alarmsI have have had 2 instances of an alarm sounding, saving me a goodly amount of water damage & expense. They are disposable...... Once the alarm has sounded, the unit can not be reused...... Dispose of, as you would any device with a built in batteryAs they are date sensitive (recommended life is 2 years, due to the non replaceable battery), I note the date onto each alarm for future reference.

The product works as advertised. As stated by one reviewer, you can reset the alarm. There is a rubber 'O' ring around the bottom pushed into a groove around the outside bottom. Remove this carefully, compress the sponge, and reinstall. I'll be looking to cut one open to see if I can't replace the battery. Unknown at this point. Product it not too loud but should be able to hear the shreak of the alarm as the background noise quiets. I have 12 of these placed all over in the house.

Bought set to place under the hot water heater and air conditioner in my friend's daughter's new house. Small, out of the way, inexpensive - I had two left. Put one in the dark corner behind our water heater. Late that evening, we heard an impossible to ignore squeal. Tracked it to the water heater - it had begun leaking at the inlet and outlet connections, apparently just a short time ago.We shut off the water and power to the heater, went to sleep, and replaced the heater, now leaking quite rapidly when I turned it back on to test. The unit saved up a significant cleanup. Nearly as necessary as a fire alarm.Worked exactly as designed. Once the unit alarmed and wouldn't shut off, I put it in the freezer (read that someplace). It stopped alarming in 30 seconds, gave us a good night's sleep and prevented a sure flood.

These small, unobtrusively small things are practical little Life Savers. ("Set-up" is as easy as pulling a small tab - so the battery makes contact.)They are loud enough that you will easily be able to hear if one goes off, with no worries at all. I have had 2 sets of them; but unfortunately didn't put them around the house right away, and then found out (the hard way) that our garbage disposal had sprung a leak. The bottom of the cabinet was completely soaked and the entire cabinet became warped. But; I've had these before, and one of them was sitting right next to our water heater and went off. I found out that the drain hose was clogged and water was leaking out onto the floor. They are a godsend and can save you a ton of money and aggravation ... whether you're a homeowner or a renter, THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!Buy two sets if you need to. I have one next to the water heater, washing machine, central air conditioner inside, under every sink, next to each toilet and also one next to the dishwasher..Now I have no more worries about water damage to my house & they are completely unnoticeable - until they reliably begin chirping.

Got these on a whim, mainly because of cost. I put them around the house by toilets and not two weeks go by and one is already screaming. I was a bit pissed about it, until I got into the bathroom and found water on the floor! Well, at least I know they work! :)As others have said, there is no off switch. These guys scream until the batteries die. However, after having set this one off, I see how they work now. There is a yellow sponge (similar to a kitchen sponge, actually) in the base. On top of the sponge is a copper plate. As soon as water hits the sponge, it swells and the copper plate makes a connection, causing the buzzer to sound. Now, if you carefully pull the little white ring off of the bottom, the protective mesh comes off, and you can remove the sponge. Just set it aside and the buzzer stops. When the sponge is semi-dry, put something heavy on it (I used a soup can) for a few days. The sponge will shrink down flat again, and you can re-insert it into the base and put everything back together. I did this with the one that went off, and it's working perfectly. So they ARE semi-reusable, if you care to spend the time to take it apart a bit. Honestly, it'll take you two minutes to do it. Anyhow, good product and I'd buy again.Update: lots of folks asked for details on how to reuse these, so read above and check out the pictures below. The key is to gently remove the rubber ring and pull the sponge out by the mesh covering. Once you have that off, the alarm stops. I peel the copper sticker off the top, and put a heavy weight on the sponge for about 5-7 days. At that point, the sponge is back to being flat and will stay that way until it gets touched by water again. The important part is to make sure it dries in the flat condition. Then, just put the copper sticker back on, and reassemble it with the rubber ring. You're good to go for another use. I've now done this three times and haven't had any false alarms, and they've worked perfect. These are great little leak detectors.
