The Intermatic HB880R Outdoor Timer is great, low cost outdoor lighting control unit. Once programmed the unit operates just as advertised. I'm using it to control outside LED porch lights.

Got this to replace a broken one for my Christmas lights. This thing is so easy to use. I found a youtube video showing exactly how to program the timer. The directions it comes with are lacking. It has worked fabulously and I know use it the rest of the year for my landscape lighting. I am not sure if it is completely waterproof but mine is mostly covered by and awning.

Purchased to control landscape lights -- have them come on at sundown and off at a specific time. When unit works, it is at best adequate for the job.Now the numerous problems.1) It does not remember your program. In 4 months has forgotten the programming twice.2) It loses track of time. Every now and then it will gain or lose hours of time.3) It does not understand daylight savings time. For my use, I'll need to change the programming twice a year.4) It will become completely non-functional in 4 months. Totally useless.UPDATE: Company replaced the unit under warranty -- fingers crossed. In setting up the new unit, it does support daylight savings time -- it was just another item that did not work in the old unit.

Es poco confuso en su programación, pero cuando le aciertas ya es fácil.

This took a while to really figure out to make work for my unique set up, but now that I understand it, it works well. I have it running the motor on my auto chicken door (motor d20) and it works every time adjusting to the astronomical time, just like the birds. I wasn't clear initially on how to adjust the time each day based on the sunrise and sunset because to be safe (and to not lock my birds in/out of the house) I need it to open and close before and after these times by about 30 minutes. Their biological clock isn't as precise and not EXACTLY as our recorded sunrise for instance. So now I know you don't have to enter the truthful sunrise/sunset, you can enter a time you want for it to do what you. Then it adjusts from there.

This is an excellent outdoor timer. I used the previous version of this timer (HB800R) for many years until it failed this fall. I'm not sure why so many people think it is so hard to program. The steps are clearly spelled out in the instructions and are laid out in logical order. This is the only reasonably priced outdoor timer I've found that you set to have on/off events set to sunrise/sunset and the timer will self adjust. I mainly use the timer for our outdoor Halloween and Christmas lights and have it set to come on a dusk and then turn off at midnight. I set it at the beginning of the season and forget about it. Works great! I love that they now use just an ordinary AA battery as the backup battery instead of two button batteries in a clumsy battery holder as in the previous version (which was also the cause of my old timer failing). The reason I'm only giving it 4 stars is because I wish there were a dedicated On/Off button. You can manually turn things on and off but you have to step through a menu. There should just be a simple On/Off button. All in all it's a great timer though.

Received on time about a week ago, installation and set-up was simple and straightforward. Works perfectly for timing the lighting in my greenhouse. using the auto setting turning the lights on just before sundown until 11pm and on at 4am until sun rise during the winter (indoor instalation)

I bought this to run my Christmas lights this year due to my outdoor mechanical timer no longer working. I bought this because it looked the most robust for the money and had dual grounded outlets. There have been no issues for the 3 weeks it has been running and we have had several days of rain. I am probably only running about 2 amps through it, but I would feel comfortable operating it within its limits. As some users have mentioned, programming is not as intuitive as other units (I have an indoor digital timer from another company that is very intuitive), but the included directions were easy enough to figure it out. One user review has even better directions on Amazon. There are plenty of options to select from and I like that it can have dusk and dawn times update based on location.I also like that you can easily mount this to a wall or fence with two screws or nails. The one negative is that it did not include mounting screws. Overall I would recommend this if you need a solid outdoor timer.

This is my second purchase of this unit. My first unit came with my koi pond equipment from Sacramento Koi.The first time I tried programming it, I was too lazy to read the instructions, and because it wasn't very intuitive, I was a little put off. When I actually took the 2 minutes required to read the 1 sheet of instructions (front and back), it was brilliantly simple. My first time programming, I brought the sheet out with me and went step by step. After the first ON/OFF pair, I was able to program the rest of the settings without using the sheet.Basically, there are 7 pairs of ON/OFF settings that you can program. For each pair, you must:1. Set the ON time.2. Select day or days to run the program. Here, you can choose a single day, weekdays, or weekends.3. Set the Hour. This will also give you the option of selecting the Sunrise or Sun-down times.4. Set the minute.5. Set the corresponding OFF time (repeats steps 2-4 above).... repeat for 6 other ON/OFF pairs if needed.Once it's all programmed, you can press the SELECT FUNCTION button to:1. Stay ON, ignoring all programming2. Stay OFF, ignoring all programming3. Auto ON, keeps it ON until the next program tells it to turn OFF then continue with programming schedule4. Auto OFF, keeps it OFF until the next program tells it to turn ON then continue with programming schedule5. Some other one's but I forget what they are... i think they are random (RDM) so that it turns ON/OFF within 30 minutes of your programmed times, but I have never used this, just the first 4.If you try to program before it's plugged in, the screen will be super dim because the (single AA) battery is meant to keep the programming in memory in case of a power-outage, not to run the system. As soon as it's plugged in, the screen will be more readable.Overall, I like the unit better than the type that you put the little plastic plugs into because it offers more variety. Note: I live in northern California, where in never really gets too cold or too wet. It gets really hot, though (over 100* F), for weeks at a time, and it has held up throughout the summer.
