I had a product like this for several years and splintered the handle. The label was so worn I couldn't read the name of the manufacturer, so I had to find a new one. This is my 4th different one in 5 months and it lasted an hour loosening weeds in what I would consider average dirt. The outside prongs started bending outward like the previous 3. My conclusion is that because the prongs are angled slightly outward, that's the direction they will go when feeling resistance. Clearly a design flaw. My advice to anyone buying one of these - or any brand - is to pinch the outside prongs closer together so they're more aligned. Seems to be working and holding better up since I did that.

Bought this as a replacement for our neighbor...we borrowed to chop roots out of a garden. We got thru 3 large ones...the 4th broke the handle. Did a great job for what we used it for

This is my favorite gardening tool. Bought this one for my son, who works as a gardener. I was afraid he would steal mine, since he also loves it. It is heavy enough to slice through tough grass, but not so heavy that it hurts my wrist. Works for weeds that cover the ground. Not for delicate weeding right next to plants, that you need to do by hand. This modal isn't identical to mine, but mine has lasted for years and this one appears to be about the same construction. Mine has a red handle, which is easier to find in the middle of the garden. This one is blue. If you weed a garden, you must get one of these.
