I owned an older version of this and just replaced it because the old one got lose and started wiggling. This leveling base is very sturdy, good quality build and the biggest improvement is that they replaced a protruding screw for the leveling with the circular rotating cuff that does not protrude out. Easy to use and it doesn't get in the way, accessible from any angle, making this a pleasure to use at night.I use this as a base for a star tracker, it enables me to set up the tripod, level it without needing north alignment. Once leveled, the rotating base allows me a rough north alignment, the tracker than does the rest. Perfect for that purpose!The one minor complaint is the remaining screw to unlock the rotation, it still protrudes out and gets in the way of my ballhead and the camera when tilting sideways. It is much smaller than it used to be, but could be improved with something that doesn't protrude out as much. The opposing bubble level doesn't help here, and it is also screwed on, making it possible to come lose after some time. I wish that bubble level would be built into the top base. Most ballheads would not cover it up.This is the only reasonably priced rotating leveling base on the market, so highly recommended for that.

I've done photography for a long time and have a few photography tripods. Recently I have been doing more video work, and I did not want to clutter my house with a video tripod with an integrated level base. But using a video head without a leveling base is very challenging. This Leveling Base solved that problem.This base is large and robust so it will handle a large fluid head and camera rig. Leveling is simple using the twist collar. I like that it loosens enough for leveling, but it never gets really loose. It moves slowly and smoothly so it allows me to get it in the exact position I want. The panning motion is also super smooth, which can definitely help if you have a cheaper fluid head.So if you're looking to dabble in video with your photography tripod, I would recommend adding this to you kit and save yourself from the headaches of perfectly leveling your tripod.
