I purchased two of these sets, one for myself and one as a gift. My previous wine bottle opener was of a similar design and worked for over 15 years. The first time I used the F-Elephant wine bottle opener it failed to bring up the cork and I assumed that it may have been the wax coated button on top of the cork. However, the second time I made an attempt on another bottle, it seemed to be traveling into the cork, but when I pushed down on the lever, the cork did not move. I tried several times and then used my old fashioned manual opener. I am very disappointed with this product especially since I gave one set as a gift. I made the determination after checking the spiral corkscrew in the handle that the piece, corkscrew, is not thick enough to grab the cork and pull it out. My old fashion one is much thicker and has more substance to it. You might as well try to pull a cork out with a toothpick the F-Elephant is that defective.

f elephant Wine Opener Set, Wine Bottle Opener with Wine Foil Cutter, Extra Spiral, Wine Pourer with Wine Stopper, Vacuum Pump, Lever-type Corkscrew Wine Bottle Opener (Crimson). This wine opener seems to be well-made and durable. It is not at all flimsy, feels well-balanced, and is quite attractive. Let’s discuss the accessories first. The foil cutter has 2 blades opposite each other – just place it squarely on top of the bottle, give a half-twist and then twist it back to its original position, lift upward, and the top of the foil comes right off. This is much easier than using a knife … and safer too. The opener comes with a spare spiral corkscrew, but to be honest, I can’t imagine ever needing it or that the original would ever become dull. The set also includes a wine pourer with a stopper – this is not an aerator, just a pourer. The stopper fits inside the spout so that you can store the bottle without removing the pourer. However, the pourer makes the bottle taller, so you might not be able to store it in the refrigerator that way … but if you leave your wine out (as many do with red wine), then this is very convenient. I am not a fan of the one-piece stopper/vacuum pump that is part of this set. Again, it makes the bottle way taller, and I cannot tell the difference when a pump is used, especially if you consume the wine within a few days. If you are a discriminating wine connoisseur, then I would suggest a special stopper with a separate pump – when the pump is removed, the nipple on the stopper forms a seal that maintains the integrity of the partial vacuum much longer. But it’s really all about the wine opener itself and not the accessories. I got it for the wine opener. And let me tell you, the opener is among the best -- if not the very best -- I’ve used. The zinc alloy ratchet mechanism feels solid and works very smoothly. What I like most about this wine opener is that the lever has only a 90-degree sweep. Pull the lever up 90-degrees to lift the spiral corkscrew, place the collar over the neck of the bottle, then move the lever forward 90-degrees to penetrate the cork and pull the lever back 90-degrees to extract the cork. It’s literally that easy! Remove the opener from the bottle, hold it over a table or wastebasket, and move the lever forward and back again -- and presto, like magic, the cork is released. I had an original Houdini rabbit wine opener by Metrokane for 20 years – loved it. One of the pliers-type plastic grips finally broke off, but the lever on that wine opener had more than a 180-degree sweep. This f elephant, with a 90-degree sweep, is faster, smoother, and with no plastic pliers-type handles to break off. Never thought I’d say it but, “Houdini, you have met your match.” OK, it’s not very portable … at about 1.5 lbs. you wouldn’t want to carry it in your pocket. For portability, try a waiter’s corkscrew, but they take practice and are not nearly as easy to use.Needless to say, I highly recommend this f elephant wine opener, which is why I gave it the maximum 5 stars without hesitation. And get it with the foil cutter too … the other accessories are ok, but not essential. Oh, and BTW, the crimson color is very attractive and an eye-catcher! I don’t think you will be disappointed.

So there I was...with one of those battery powered cork pullers when slowly the battery died halfway through a pull and I realized I was in deep trouble. I decided then that this would not happen again and I got the f elephant wine opener set. I wasn't too sure about it, but figured I would give it a try. BTW, yes, I have a manual cork screw as well as another device designed to pull corks without actually using a cork screw, but that's a whole different story. So, I got this device and frankly, the only downside to it is that I believe I might drink more wine because it is so easy and fun to use. The foil cutter is quick and easy, then on with cork remover, two quick motions and it's done. The addition of the wine pourer, quite frankly, is bonus. To say the least, I really like this, and highly recommend it.5 stars from me.

This is one of the easiest, most foolproof wine bottle openers I've used. It's a simple 3 step process to open a bottle; repeat the last two steps to remove the cork from the corkscrew. The foil cutter also is very easy to use and works well. The wine pourer is fairly basic, and includes a small silicone stopper for use in between pours. The only issue I have with this set is with the wine stopper - it's made of plastic and rubber, and I haven't been able to create a vacuum in the bottle while using it.
